Foremost, thanks to parents who have braved the weather and could make it to the Tournament. Although the Tournament didn't have the Stalwarts like Michelle or Michael Jacobs but had some tough fights at the top boards.
Michelle won the $200 after the aggregate of 10 points by winning the 2nd Tournament. She couldn't make it for 1st and 3rd.
Danyillo Glinnyi, Vinushan Vijendra and Vishruth Sharma with an aggregate of 5 points each shared the 3rd price of $100.

Eagle Minds CYCC Qualifier 1 - Nov 17th 2018

Date: Nov 17th 2018
Anirud Chakkoli wins the Elite section with a perfect score of 5/5.
With the usual strong players missing, the Elite section lost the charm. The various age  sections had to be grouped with the Elite and probably might have robbed the chances of few of the young ones like 7 year old Dev Patel who lost his selection by 0.5 points.
Anirud Chakkoli from Alton Village Public School continued his dominant form from the previous Regular Rating Tournament at Burlington Club where he scored 5/5
(
http://chess.ca/crosstable?tournament_check_number=201811028&key=181118 ) . Anirud faced some strong opposition from Danyilo and Luka but was able to prevail over them.

Danyilo Glinnyi who came 2nd drew with Luka and had a good position against Anirud but couldn't convert it and had to settle for 2nd.

Dennis Bince tried playing quick and lost to Sato. He had to settle for a 3rd place.
Kuni, Sato and Luka scored 2.5 and got selected for 2019 CYCC at Regina and will be receiving their e-Certificates.
The next Tournament is on Dec 9th 2018.

Luka Granic from St. Clement Catholic School wins the U1600 Section
At the end of 4th round top seed Schneider and Luka were leading with 3 points. A win in the last and 5th round would have given Schneider the trophy due to better Tie break score, however an upset by Anirud due to an oversight of Rook caused him the game.  Although Luka lost to Schneider in the opening round, he came back strongly to beat Anirud and Jesse to win the Trophy.  Jesse came 2nd and Schneider has to be content with the Bronze. Anirud was unlucky to lose the 3rd place on Tie break. Photos below with the Winners holding the Trophy aloft. The top 3 get a free entry to the Eagle Minds next Active
